About the Khumbu Region

The Khumbu Region of north-eastern Nepal is the legendary home of Mount Everest, the highest point on earth at 8,849 metres, and the spiritual homeland of the Sherpa people. Most journeys begin with the dramatic flight to Lukla, followed by the iconic trek to Everest Base Camp through Namche Bazaar, the bustling trading hub of the Khumbu. Along the way travellers encounter Buddhist monasteries such as Tengboche, prayer-flag-draped ridgelines, and towering peaks including Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Nuptse. The region sits largely within Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its high-altitude ecosystem. Beyond the headline trek, the Khumbu rewards visitors with deep cultural immersion in Sherpa traditions, mountaineering history and some of the most awe-inspiring scenery anywhere on the planet.
